Bisui Spring

The Bisui Spring is a new source of water. This spring, which is unique to this hotel, produces 50 tons of rich, pale jade-colored spring water per day at a temperature of 60℃ to smooth and balance your skin. A sauna and air bath are also available in the public bath, which was renovated in 2022.
The baths are fully tiled, with iron frames on the windows, and have been redecorated in a romantic art deco style to match the Katakurakan, a national designated important cultural property in Suwa located very nearby.
These are beautiful paradises where you can soak in the water while gazing at the gorgeous view.

To ensure your safety while enjoy the Bisui Spring, which is only available at Shinyu, we have installed tatami mats, which are also effective in preventing bacteria and fungus. The floors in the tatami bath area prevent slipping and also provide cushioning in the unlikely event of a fall, for peace of mind while bathing. They also keep your feet warm and comfortable. Handrails have also been installed at the entrance of the tub for your convenience.

Peranakan Air Bath

The women’s bath area is equipped with a Peranakan air bath, and the walls are covered with Peranakan tiles. Peranakan tiles are antiques exported from Japan to Southeast Asia mainly during the Taisho (1912-1926) and Showa (1926-1989) periods. They are characterized by their colorfulness and relief style depicting flowers and plants, and the Peranakan air bath here is decorated using some of the few tiles that were imported back from overseas and have remained in Japan. Please enjoy bathing while appreciating the sight of antique tiles that have traveled around the world.

Hygiene management in bathing areas

To ensure that our onsen baths are safe to use, we manage hygiene in bathing areas in compliance with the methods and cleaning frequency stipulated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Public Health Center.

Facilities

  • Circulating bathtubs (water is completely changed at least once a week on a regular basis, and the bathtubs are disinfected and cleaned)
  • Filtration equipment
  • Chlorine injectors

Frequency

  • Bathing area cleaning: Daily
  • Draining and cleaning: Once a week
  • Chlorine disinfection: Each time the tubs are drained and cleaned (constant disinfection by chlorine injector to maintain the proper chlorine concentration)
  • Residual chlorine concentration measurements: Daily (adjusted to between 0.4 mg /L and 1.0 mg /L or less for at least two hours per day)
For guests with children

As of October 1, 2024, opposite-sex visitors to the public baths and changing rooms are limited to 6 years of age.

Use of bathing gowns

The hotel cooperates with the Pink Ribbon Movement. Guests with special circumstances may wear a bathing gown (bath time cover) when using the onsen baths. These bathing gowns are designed to cover surgical scars from breast cancer, skin grafts, etc., so that guests can enjoy bathing without worrying about their surroundings. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has stated that the use of bathing gowns poses no hygiene management problems. We appreciate your understanding. Please inform a staff member if you would like to borrow a bathing gown.
